Chef Peter Merriman Brings Approachable Handcrafted Cuisine to Wailea
Wailea Resort – Maui, Hawaii – Award Winning Chef and Restaurateur Peter Merriman and Bill Terry invite all to experience handcrafted dining at the new and highly anticipated restaurant, Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman, opening February 7, 2011.
The 6,100 square foot establishment perched above the Pacific in Wailea’s Gateway Center will feature locally sourced food in a warm and welcoming environment. The chef driven concept and family-friendly pub style surroundings provide an exciting new dining option for Maui residents and visitors alike.
Embracing Merriman’s passion for regional and sustainable cuisine, Monkeypod Kitchen will offer approachable handcrafted food, paired with creative preparations and perfect execution. “We’ll focus on a locally sourced menu, using only socially conscious ingredients such as range-fed Maui beef, sustainably caught fish species and no bottled products, except for wine,” says Chef Peter Merriman. “Think homemade pies made from scratch, freshly baked hamburger buns and hand tossed pizzas from our kiawe wood burning oven,” adds Merriman. Other standout menu items include chicken adobo, handcrafted dry mein, and Merriman’s classic wok charred ahi.
Thirty-six craft beers served at twenty-nine degrees will be on tap, complimented by culinary cocktails and a diverse wine list emphasizing sustainability, drinkability and fun. The restaurant, featuring inviting communal tables, a long curved bar (over 30 feet), cozy lounge spaces and indoor and outdoor dining areas is ideal for families, sunset cocktails with a view or gatherings of any size.
Embracing the “Art of Craft” – skill, dedication and passion – in everything from cuisine, beer, and décor, Monkeypod Kitchen will proudly feature work from local artists and craftsmen throughout the restaurant. “We will have all the social and comfort aspects longed for in a fun, welcoming environment. This paired with friendly service and Peter’s outstanding cuisine, will be a wonderful new dining option in Wailea,” says Bill Terry, President and CEO of Monkeypod Kitchen.
