Merriman’s Kapalua Celebrates Second Year Anniversary With Ocean Front Dining – “Locavore Style”
Chef and Restaurateur Peter Merriman invites diners to celebrate July 18-24 with a $48, Three-Course Hawaii Grown Anniversary Menu, with $10 of each dinner donated to the Maui Food Bank.
June 21, 2010 – Kapalua – Maui – Hawaii – Come, Celebrate and “Do the Right Thing” as Award Winning Chef Peter Merriman invites island visitors and residents to experience a genuine Hawaii Regional dining experience in the breathtaking ocean front setting of Merriman’s Kapalua.
During the week of July 18-24 Merriman Kapalua will celebrate the restaurant’s second year anniversary and highlight “locavore” dining at its best. The restaurant will offer a three-course $48 Hawaii Grown Anniversary Menu, with $10 of each dinner donated to the Maui Food Bank.
Those who have been fortunate enough to experience dining at one of Merriman’s three Hawaii restaurants know that one thing will always be guaranteed: Merriman’s uses 90% locally grown and raised product in its dishes, a standard unsurpassed within the Hawaii culinary world.
When Merriman’s Kapalua opened in July of 2008, Peter Merriman had a clear vision of what he wanted to offer Maui diners – the authentic “farm to fork” experience his customers had grown to love at his Big Island flagship restaurant – transported to a stunning ocean-front setting overlooking Kapalua Bay in the world renowned Kapalua Resort. The regional menu concept and awe-inspiring location were the perfect marriage for what now is one of Maui’s finest and most authentic oceanfront dining experiences.
A visionary and founding member of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine Movement, Peter has long been known as the “Real McKoy” of dedicatedly serving only locally grown and raised foods to his diners, no matter how much work was involved. Long before the idea of supporting local farmers, growers and ranchers was even popular, Peter has been doing just that simply because he wanted to serve better tasting food, and was willing to make the effort to obtain it. “My passion has always been to serve great meals. The best way to do that is through showcasing Hawaii’s farms and ranches and the food they produce. ‘Fresh’ and ‘local’ are the two words which guide every decision we make at Merriman’s Kapalua.”
The Hawaii Grown second year anniversary menu will feature a choice of the following entrees:
Maui Lehua Taro “Mignon” with Kapalua Arugula, Tomato, Pineapple, and Surfing Goat Cheese Vinaigrette.
Sautéed Big Island Abalone with Hirabara Farms Spinach, Honopua Fennel, Naked Cow Dairy Brown Butter with local lemon.
Maui Cattle Company Filet with grilled Mango Anuhea Asparagus, Maui Onion and Kula Beet-Tomato Chutney.
All entrees will be accompanied by Farmers Market Vegetable Pickles, Macadamia Nut Butter and Roasted Ulu pupu, and Coconut Crème Brulee for dessert.
In addition to the $10 donation for every anniversary dinner sold, the restaurant will match an aggregate of $2,500 for donations made by guests to the Maui Food Bank. Additional images available, please inquire for photo credits.
