Chef Tom Selman’s Main Street Bistro in Wailuku will close on June 26. We have just a week left to consume his delicate onion rings, savory lamb burgers, ahi cones and daily specials. Selman makes much of his menu from scratch, and event the ketchup for his unique fries is special. I know I’ve raved about his shrimp burgers and beet salads, but if you haven’t tried one of Tom’s martinis, your time is limited.
Selman says he’s ready to relax, after running the restaurant for the last 10 and a half years, but his wife might not like seeing him after all this time. See, his sense of humor can be as dry as his martinis. You can find many more of Chef Selman’s idioms on his Facebook page, but you only have until Thursday, June 26 to soak it up in person while eating his food.
Main Street Bistro is open from 11am to 7pm, but call before you go just to make sure. 2051 Main St., Wailuku; 808-244-6816.

A new sushi restaurant is opening in Lahaina on Front Street, in the former Avalon space. It’s funny that we keep calling that spot “the former Avalon space,” because the spot under the former Moose’s has been other places since then, though none as memorable as Avalon. For more info visit their facebook page.
Anyway, a recent Pacific Business news article says Sushi Ko will open on July 1, with service from 11am to 1am, seven days a week. What’s more, Dirty Monkey will open in the old Moose’s location as a bar with shuffleboard and a dance floor. The owners, a group from LA, are still in the permitting process.
