It’s been so hot lately that I’m sure you’re craving some of our island’s favorite frozen treat–shave ice. I bet the last time you dug into one of those colorful sweet icy mounds in a cone, there was a wish in the back of your mind that it was spiked with a little pau hana power. Well, Brandon Maeda–the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa’s director of food and beverage–apparently had the same thought.
“Hawaiian shave ice is a popular treat for kids of all ages,” says Maeda. “We are pleased to bring this island favorite to the resort and have it appeal to our adult guests in a whole new way with the addition of liquor to the recipe. Hawaiian shave ice is delicious on its own or as dessert after a meal of the resort’s recently introduced gourmet all-beef and Portuguese sausage dogs.”
Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa’s Mai Tai Bar is open daily from 10am to 4pm. There you can enjoy the splendor of Black Rock while devouring your spiked ice. The resort has developed flavors like Rum Rainbow, Spiked Pineapple and Tropical Cactus, or just use your own creativity and design your own. I’m thinking li-hing tequila lime…
Of course, they also offer virgin shave ice for the kids. The bar also serves mochi ice cream and a great selection of gourmet toppings for the hot dogs. Happy hour at the Mai Tai is early–10am to noon–but you can also mosey over to the Cliff Dive Bar for their happy hour, which runs 3-5pm. Of course, if you’re there you might as well stay for the live music, hula dancer and the cliff diving ceremony starting around 6:30pm. Even then, the fun doesn’t have to end, because Black Rock Steak and Seafood and Teppanyaki-Dan are offering 20 percent off deals for kama‘aina.
