Kiwi Roadhouse,
South Maui Center in Kihei,
95 E. Lipoa St.,
808-874-1250
Ok. Scoldings on me cuz I haven’t eaten here yet. I know this New Zealand themed place has opened months ago, but still its on my list of places to check out. First of all they have meat pie, a traditional New Zealand dish, and the word is their burgers are good too. They have live entertainment as well.

Bocalino
1445 South Kihei Road,
Kīhei, Hawaii 96753,
808-874-4041
Bocalino may sound familiar to you, Guido Hauwaerts has reopened in the former Gian Don’s after being closed for some time. Our art Director Chris and his wife Sabrina recently dined there and gave me the thumbs up on the food. Their world wide tapas menu is good, and they have great pasta too. You can also check out their happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Another bonus: Chef Sawamura doing Koi Sushi.

West Side:

Another flashback of food, Pad Thai was opened in the identical spot under the identical name about 5 years ago, but now its back. Same great Thai takeout, cute dining room, and owner Jongkonnie Nishimura who loves to cook for you.

Captain Jack’s
672 Front Street
Lahaina, HI 96761
(808) 667-0988
New to the Front Street scene Captain Jack’s is across the street from the Pioneer Inn. Perfect location near the harbor for this pirate themed restaurant, me hardies. I hear their fish and chips rock, and they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in their upstairs open air dining room. Lots of high def tv screens for Sunday football too.

Banyan Tree Deli
626 Front St
Lahaina, HI 96761
(808) 662-3354
Right on Front St. under Skin Deep Tattoo, this deli is baking fresh bread for the sandwiches they make, as well as handmade scones, muffins, cupcakes, breads, cookies and an array of treats including handmade chocolates. Plus andwiches are made fresh daily using the highest in quality ingredients including (CAB) and non-processed meats. My dad tried it and says the sandwiches are excellent, and the cookie was huge. I can’t wait.
Ono Kau Kau
3481 L. Honoapiilani Road,

Just opened in Honokowai by the ABC store, these folks are already gaining a reputation for an awesome plate lunch.

Bad Ass Coffee Company
Pioneer Inn
Same bad ass coffee, now in the Pioneer Inn. Deja vu? Yes. They were opened here years ago. But new owners and a new take on the store, just the similar location as before.

Green Banana Frozen Yogurt
137 Hana Hwy.
Paia
808-579-9130
Green Banana Cafe sprouted a gourmet frozen yogurt shop next door in June. If you haven’t tried a Pro Yo Smoothie yet, get down there. I had my first one on Saturday and my only regret is that I was sipping from my friends. Their yogurt recipe is made with fresh, organic yogurt and it is a great source of probiotics.

Central:
Vineyard Food Company
1951 Vineyard St.
Wailuku, 96793
808-243-FOOD (3663)
The newest addition to the Market Street lunch scene gets a stamp of approval from MauiTime staffers. Keeping it simple with wraps and sandwiches, they still have a gourmet touch. Lunch menu changes weekly, all sandwiches are $6.50 for a whole or $4.50 for halfs, or take a brown bag special for $10 and you get chips, drink and dessert too.

Whole Foods Market Kahului
Whole Foods Market Kahului is now serving Sunday brunch. They have a omelette bar that has all of the freshest ingredients and preservative free meats you can stuff in scrambled eggs. They also make fresh waffles that you can smother in fresh fruit, and have a hot bar of breakfast foods to go with. Perfect take out for a Sunday brunch picnic.
