It’s an exciting and enterprising time for Maui Brewing Co. Over the past few months, their local brews have earned a collection of awards from Ameri-CAN Canned Craft Beer Fest, the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition and the US Open Beer Championship.
The final tally adds up to seven medals awarded to four different beers and to the brewery as a whole. Their flagship beer, CoCoNut PorTeR, won one gold and one silver medal, Bikini Blonde Lager was awarded two silver medals and Mana Wheat earned one as well. Their fall 2012 limited release beer, Liquid Breadfruit, was awarded a bronze medal in the indigenous beer category, and to top off all the winning, Maui Brewing Co. was awarded a “Most Sustainable Brewer Award” by HPE. According to a July 18 news release from Maui Brew Co., “The awards included beers entered at the Ameri-CAN Canned Craft Beer Fest, the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition and the US Open Beer Championship.”
In addition to all the success Maui Brewing Co.’s beer has recently received, the company will soon begin construction on a new production facility in Kihei, starting July 24. This new location will have an initial capacity of approximately 50,000 barrels and will allow them to progress as a sustainable manufacturing company that invests in the community.
As they continue to make 100 percent of their beer in Hawaii, Maui Brewing Co. is always looking for ways to give back. Already, they donate the used grain from beer production to local ranchers to use as cattle feed and compost. All of the cans are designed by Maui artists and are eco-friendly, eliminating the harmful plastic rings by replacing them with recyclable carrying devices.
