Honolulu Cookie Company is hoping to launch a national expansion by bringing Ahmad Yu on board as its new Vice President of Operations. Yu will oversee the company’s manufacturing, distribution, purchasing and quality assurance. He will also be responsible for all operation support systems.
Yu is currently a member of the American Association of Candy Technologists, Institute of Food Technologists and director of the Hawaii Macadamia Nut Association. His professional accomplishments include certification in Hawaii Agricultural Leadership Foundation’s two year leadership program. He has also served as chairman of the Hawaii Institute of Food Technologists.
His goals for Honolulu Cookie Company include working towards the realization of the company’s major expansion vision. “I hope to use my experience in quality, food safety, operation efficiency and management to help Honolulu Cookie Company meet new challenges as we expand from the local market to national and beyond,” Yu said in a Feb. 6 press release.
Yu, who graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1982 with a Master’s Degree in Food Science and Technology, brings 30 years of experience in food manufacturing and processing to Honolulu Cookie Company; his knowledge of products ranges from candies and baked goods to fruits, juices, fish and meats. “We are excited to have Ahmad as part of our executive team,” said Ginger Waters, Vice President of Marketing in that Feb. 6 press release. “His leadership skills and range of experience will prove invaluable to Honolulu Cookie Company.”
His previous jobs included working at Hawaiian Host as Director of Quality and Innovation, and Director of Operations at Big Island Candies., Inc.
The Honolulu Cookie Company has two stores on Maui–one in the Shops at Whalers Village and one on Front Street in Lahaina; a third Maui store will open in the Shops at Wailea in early 2014. On Oahu, the company has seven retail stores in Waikiki, one at Ward Warehouse and a kiosk in the Makai Food Court at Ala Moana Center. Honolulu Cookie Company’s first mainland retail store will open in April 2014 at The Shoppes at the Palazzo in Las Vegas.
