The Four Season’s is jumping into their social media campaign with a global take on the tweet up: worldwide locations doing a sparkling wine tasting and participating together through the hashtag #FSWine. Four Seasons Maui kicked off their sip and tweet party at Ferraro’s with posh snacks paired with the three featured wines. I thought it was a brilliant idea, and loved that they had a high tech set up with a TV screen that followed the hashtags and brought us all a little closer globally.

Starla Cosme attended as a twitter newbie. I knew that once she came to a tweet up she would really get what tweeting is and want to get in the game. The in real life (IRL) interactions around twitter have been some of my favorite aspects of twitter. Cosme says, “I really enjoyed the get together. Its great to meet a room full of completely new friends in a new social medium. This has totally opened my eyes to twitter. I see the potential. Now I have to get it together online and in my phone. I am totally embarrassed by my old phone, I think you brought me here to pressure me into getting a new iPhone.”
I promise I did not have any ulterior motives with regards to purchasing any new equipment. Although I wasn’t much help or support on keeping that handy old flip phone. I could barely send a text from it.
I happened to choose a table right by the pizza oven, but I thought it was a great spot to watch the chefs in action. The licks of fire hungrily roast these beautiful breads, flatbreads and savory pastries they were pulling out of that oven. It was another moment where you can get closer to your food by appreciating the preparation. It was hot, blazing hot in front of that oven, but the excitement and anticipation of seeing these amazing things coming out of the oven kept me watching.
In the meantime my i phone kept telling me error connecting to server and I was getting frustrated. I tried my new app Oink, where you rate individual items, and send out twitter posts with links to pictures, no go. All my instagram posts sat in a failed que. Straight from @hootsuite or @twitter did not work either. My iPhone was not cooperating. I couldn’t figure it out so i changed gears, and decided to sign Starla up for twitter via safari on my iPhone. At least that worked. That is how new she was. Her new handle is @starlacosmic.
The sparkling tasting was a delicious and bubbly tour of Lunetta Prosecco, Domaine Chandon Brut Classic and Roederer Estate Brut Premier. The chefs at Four Seasons Ferraro’s did the pairings starting with a fagotto of turkey, cranberry relish, ricotta and burrata cheese. I had never heard of fagotto before. It is a filled savory pastry. In the recipe below they describe making it in a pie dish, but at Ferraro’s it was made more like calzone where the pastry was folded over the filling.
(here is a fagotto recipe for you to try: http://viewitaly.blogspot.com/2005/11/dinner-fagotto-di-zucchine.html)
The Domaine Chandon was talked about a lot. Dania Katz @daniaediblehi says she woke up thinking about it the next day (via twitter). I found it at Costco for about $15. It is a Chardonnay grape sparkling on the dry side, I completely enjoyed it as well. It was served with a clever hors d’oeuvre called black sesame basket filled with fig and pear compote. The play on all of these appetizers were a fruity sweetness that balanced the sparkling’s dry flavor, yet the overall presentation was savory with cheese.
The final pairing of Louis Roederer Brut Premier was my favorite. The wine was delicious, heady almost, and the pairing of gingerbread crostini with red beet and marscapone slaw and Alaina Farm Honey swayed me because I love beets. After the last pairing I trailed off toward Duo to try to send my tweets out. Several tweeters were still tweeting, others lounged by the pool to watch the sunset. The sunset was amazing as all of my apps were connecting to twitter and facebook in front of Duo. I headed upstairs to end the evening with dinner at Spago’s. Other tweeters stayed and ate at Ferraro’s. Later Peter Liu @peterliu47 was spotted getting cotton candy desserts at Duo (see the awesome pic below). All in all it was an amazing tweet up, and the Four Seasons @FSMaui promises to do it again soon.
Here is a picture post by Kathy Becklin @alohakathy about the evening sunset:
