What you’re looking at is the only known photograph of a new hot sauce created by a new partnership between Maui-based Adoboloco and the Andaz Maui resort. Though announced via a Mar. 15 press release (the sauce itself launched on Mar. 2), the PR firm J Public Relations didn’t actually have a photo of the new sauce.
So I did what any good reporter would do–I went to the Andaz and charmed some bartenders at the resort’s Lehua Lounge–who were experimenting with new cocktail recipes that use the sauce–into showing me the bottle. In fact, they even let me taste it.
The sauce uses mangoes (duh) and chili peppers grown on the Andaz property. Its taste starts off sweet, but quickly transitions into spicy deliciousness. The bottle lists just five ingredients: mango, rice vinegar, garlic, sea salt and Habanero peppers.
“We’re continually developing our eco-friendly and sustainable efforts to push well beyond our LEED criteria,” said Andaz Chef Isaac Bancaco in the Mar. 15 press release. “Creating our own distinctive flavor of hot sauce, and growing chili peppers in our backyard, gives guests a new way to experience the flavors of Andaz Maui and the island itself. We’re thrilled with the product and hope that Mangoes! Bumbye! will give travelers a true taste of our home and a lasting memory of their stay at Andaz Maui.”
In the news release, Adoboloco owner Tim Parsons called the partnership with Bancaco “an honor.”
“We initially started talking about this a couple of years ago so our family is so excited to see it come to fruition and look forward to many good harvests so we can continue to bring the flavors of Maui to guests and locals alike,” Parsons said.
