Thank you to Joe Imhoff, Maui’s Plant a Wish, for the suggestion.
Recipe:
3 parts vodka, Orange Juice, 1 part Galliano
Mix the vodka with the orange juice. Float Galliano on top.
The Galliano is a liqueur, created by Arturo Vaccari in 1896. He was inspired by the gold rush of the 1890’s, hence the rich gold color. I bought my 375 ml and 30% alc/vol at Hawaii Liquor Superstore for around $22.88.
As with other herb infused liqueurs, the flavors are very complex. Vanilla, ginger, star anise with a sweet base are the notes that come at me first, but those are also flavors I love. Also in here you will find cinnamon, lavendar, mint, coriander and more.
Mixed with orange juice, it really zests up the cocktail, which would otherwise just be a screwdriver. I love the citrus with the vanilla, and the other herbs come out here and there in sips. As a float at the top you get to take full advantage of its aroma, the better the orange juice the better the experience.
