– Sir Charles Sedley (Richard Griffiths) in Stage Beauty, 2004
This line was spoken by a despicable character, an obnoxious aristocrat with too much power and time on his hands to do any good. Sound familiar? But aside from his overall maliciousness and contempt for humanity, Sir Charles Sedley was astute enough to know when to medicate. War, injustice, plague—Sedley could care less about such things. He’s here to say that when things don’t make sense—or even when they do—it’s best to put on that curly white wig and drink up! (Samantha Campos)
