WAILUKU FIRST FRIDAY – Wailuku First Friday is back to bring you another episode of Friday festivities. This Friday, Market Street will close for another evening of live music acts, Exotic Eye Tattoo Finger Friday, Body Alive yoga specials, extended merchant hours and ono local grinds. The town party staples include the Beer Garden along with Kama‘aina Loan Cash for Gold live-streaming the evening. The event is free and family-friendly. ‘A FILM ABOUT A FORT’ – The Maui Arts and Cultural Center will show A Film about a Fort this Friday. Follow Wes Bruce in his quest to build a large fort. Along the way he finds wonder, exploration and community. Filmmaker Bryan Bangerter takes the audience on the journey of the installation, reaction and effects on the community long after it’s gone. Stick around for a post Q&A with the artist and filmmaker. (Bruce will return Sept. 8-Nov. 2 as MACC’s first artist-in-residence. Free. 6pm. PACIFIC INK AND ART EXPO – Rooted in culture and tradition, tattoos take on a deep meaning here in Hawaii. Choosing the right artist can be difficult, but the 2nd Annual Pacific Ink and Tattoo Expo on Oahu this Friday through Sunday can definitely help. With 400 artists and 100 vendors, this event is the only one of its kind in the state. Artist and industry leaders from all over the world will gather for three nights of tattooing. The range of artists include traditional cultural practitioners to some of TV’s famous faces. The family-friendly event includes a keiki zone, live music, food court, special demonstrations and more. ZEN ARCHERY WORKSHOP – Here’s a chance to learn the art of Zen Archery with Zen-master Rick Jyozen Beal and Bodhi Hanna. Jyozen will assist guests in the art of meditation with the goal of finding your center. Hanna has practiced in Germany, India and now Maui. Hanna has expertise in Zen Archery, Hara Breathing and Qi Gong. NIGHT RACE – Warm up your engines for yet another race at Paradise Speedway this Saturday. Cheer on as drivers (some behind the wheels of retired rental cars) race around the dirt track under the stars. You must be a registered member to participate in races. SUPPORT KID-RUN BUSINESSES – The Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center is featuring 10 kid-run business this Saturday for the annual Kids, Inc. Business Showcase. Some of Maui’s youngest entrepreneurs, all between eight and 13, will be offering goods and services ranging from baked treats to themed photos. The finalists were chosen by popular vote and will be able to keep all proceeds made that day. The lineup includes Naughty and Nice Bakery, All About Monsters, BITE ME! KRAIG VICKERS RUN – The second annual Kraig Vickers 5K and 3K pays tribute to the fallen Maui serviceman and his unit’s sacrifice during the Iraq war. This Sunday, all are invited to participate in the walk/run that will begin and end at the Kanaha Beach Park entrance. A post-race celebration will include snacks, door prizes and entertainment. MAUI PRANKSTERS – Join the Maui Pranksters in their tribute to Jerry Garcia this Sunday. HIROSHIMA/NAGASAKI REMEMBRANCE – On Monday, Maui Peace Action is presenting Jim Albertini, the keynote speaker at the annual Hiroshima and Nagasaki Remembrance. Albertini, a founding member of Malu ‘Aina Center for Nonviolent Education and author, has been a long-time non-violence activist. He will share his insight in a talk titled “Hiroshima, Fukushima, and the Global Crisis of Violence-Where do we go from here?” In 2012, Albertini and Malu ‘Aina Center received an IAH award for non-violent civic contribution. Prior to his speech will be a demonstration in origami crane making (5:30pm). Maui Taiko will perform and refreshments will follow the program. Free. 6pm.
