“Find upward bliss in the downward dog,” says Yoga Alliance, the nonprofit entity and “international gold standard for professional yoga teachers and schools that protect the health and welfare of society.” Founders of the annual Yoga Day USA (set for this Saturday), the organization encourages their registered schools and teachers to host free classes nationwide. Locally, Haiku’s Upcountry Fitness is celebrating with five free yoga classes, and invites everyone—“adults, children and families… young and old, flexible and not-so-flexible”—to attend. There’s the “Keiki & Me/Storytime Yoga” class, where keiki will “hang upside down like bats and howl like wolves” (10-10:45am …Uh, can I do that too? Please?); two “Yoga Flow: All Levels” classes, where even “couch potatoes will [find a class] perfect for them… [because] even if you can’t touch your toes, you gotta start somewhere” (11am-12:30pm); a “Yoga Flow for Kids & Teens” class (1-1:45pm); “Ashanta Based Yoga Flow” (2-3:30pm); and a “Power Core Yoga” class for experienced practitioners (4:30-5:45pm). If you miss this one you’ll be kicking yourself—or wishing you could. 575-7334 or www.upcountryfitness.com
