[LAND USE COMMITTEE HEARING] County officials clearly don’t want working people to attend this critical public hearing on Charlie Jencks’ Wailea 670 (“Honua`ula”) project and speak out about the traffic and beach congestion its 1,400 housing units and shopping center will cause or ask why Jencks insists this massive new development can subsist on a new private water well his people will sink despite the fact that previous such South Maui wells have proved to be brackish, or wonder aloud why the county is allowing a developer to replace a 110-acre native dryland forest with a golf course and sewage treatment plant. If the County Council Land Use Committee had wanted people to attend this hearing, then they would have scheduled it at a more convenient time than 1:30 in the frickin’ afternoon. The County Council Chambers are located on the 8th floor of the Kalana O Maui Building, 200 High St., Wailuku. For more information, call the Maui Tomorrow Foundation at 579-9802. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
