[ANTI WAR TALKS] At last count, 2,475 American soldiers have died in the Iraqi war, and another 296 were killed in Afghanistan. Joshua Dawson is one of those who survived, having served in Iraq from January 2004 to Januay 2005. Dawson saw combat at Tuz Kurmatzu, Tal Afar, An Najaf, Kirkuk, Samara and Mosul. After being honorably discharged, Dawson decided that he could best support his fellow soldiers by helping organize the Hawai’i chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Now Dawson travels around and tells people what it’s like to fight in Iraq, and why we need to end the war as soon as possible. The MCC lecture is free, but the Maui Beach Hotel breakfast—which includes appearances from other veterans, including Vietnam Veterans of Maui President Bill Stroud—costs $15 per person. To reserve a seat at the breakfast, call 242-5036. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
