IN A YOGA HUDDLE, THEY SAY “BEND,” NOT “BREAK”
Free yoga, this Saturday… “Find upward bliss in the downward dog,” says Yoga Alliance, the nonprofit entity and “international gold standard for professional yoga teachers and schools that protect the health and welfare of society.” Founders of the annual Yoga Day USA (set for this Saturday), the organization encourages their registered schools and teachers to host free classes nationwide. Locally, Haiku’s Upcountry Fitness is celebrating with five free yoga classes, and invites everyone—”adults, children and families… young and old, flexible and not-so-flexible”—to attend… find all the details at MT’s “This Week’s Picks”
If headstands are not doing enough to hurt your noggin, kill a few brain cells by watching Yoga Journal‘s original “comedy” webisode series, Ogden The Inappropriate Yoga Guy. It’s a pathetic rip-off of Da Ali G Show (yellow suit, crotch grab and all), mixed with something else… something so bad, I don’t know it well it enough to reference. The only thing worth saying about the show is already in its title: inappropriate. Or perhaps more suited might be irrelevant.
C’mon, Yoga Journal. Journalism is tough! By producing a show like this, you’re making it seem like we’ve got all this extra time and money on our hands. I don’t care if you’ve sprouted extra arms like a Hindu deity, or how relaxed and flexible all that yoga has made you–the clock still ticks and finances are still tight… and it’s still annoying.
