[FOOD/DRINK] Kapalua Wine & Food Festival: Loosen up the pocket books, people. If you want in on this event, it’s going to cost you. Thursday night’s “Welcome Reception” will only be welcoming you if you’re willing to drop $825 on the 4-day package. This goes for the 7 a.m. golf tournament on Friday as well. These events are only for “panelists, four-day attendees and media.” But, wait, why didn’t I receive an invite? Very interesting… I’ll be good, I promise! I won’t get drunk or dance on tables, or laugh loudly at people who think they are way more important than they are. Um, maybe it’s better if I’m not there actually. On Friday afternoon, there’ll be a Chef Bev Gannon Cooking Demonstration, an All-Star Cabernet Vertical and The Grand Tasting that I will not be attending (money doesn’t grow on trees, or in the bottom of rum bottles, for that matter). Saturday promises a day of blind taste testing (Master Sommelier 102), another cooking demonstration by Chef J. Joho, a Kapalua Wine Tour (not Kapa-feela) and The America’s Cup—“Down Under” vs. USA (heh-heh, I said “down under”). Then, have a “Sparkling Sunday” tasting champagne and sparkling wines, later attending Chef Michael Mina’s Cooking Demo, then go “Around the World in Eight Wines & Cheeses” and polish it off (with a tall, cool Budweiser? Uh, think again, cheap-o) with the Kapalua Seafood Festival. Like Ma always said, “Nothing’s free.” Each of the events cost $100+ except the Kapalua Wine Tour (only $30).
