[VEGAN LECTURE] “When I came out of medical school,” William Harris, M.D. told a crowd a couple years ago, “I didn’t know anymore about nutrition than I did when I went in.” A vegan since the early 1960’s, Harris helped found and currently runs the Vegetarian Society of Hawai`i. A pilot, skydiver and active swimmer, Harris is probably in better shape than you or I, even though he’s also in his 70’s. This Monday Harris will make another appearance as part of the Vegetarian Society’s monthly lecture series, talking up the need for people to eat raw nuts and seeds while taking a tenderizer to the insanely popular (the key word is “insane”) high-carb diets. As usual, the lecture is free, as are the vegan refreshments. For more information call 575-7694. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
