Our habit of dumping massive quantities of garbage into the ocean presents a serious problem for marine creatures. Plastics can be toxic to birds and sealife, and the other chemicals from the trash pollute the ocean. Given that it’s Earth Day on Tuesday, Suzanne Frazer, the co-founder of Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawaii (BEACH), will talk at the Humpback Whale Sanctuary office in Kihei about the need to take out the trash–or at the very least, not putting so much garbage into the ocean. Free. 6pm. Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, Hale Kuahui Conference Room (726 S. Kihei Rd.); b-e-a-c-h.org
