We put the word “vagina” on this week’s cover. And right up there is another word describing a part of the female anatomy. The fact that we did that without batting an eye—and that all but the most prudish among us won’t bat one, either—is due in no small part to Eve Ensler’s seminal (sorry) stage production, The Vagina Monologues. And this weekend, you can catch a local production featuring Kathy Collins, Rochelle Dunning, Marilyn Hirashima, Sodengi Mills and Kristi Scott (Sunday, February 13, Steppingstone Playhouse, Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center, $20). The popularity of Ensler’s show spawned “V-Day,” a global effort to end violence against women and girls, and in that spirit proceeds will benefit Maui’s Women Helping Women. [242-6600; mauiacademy.org] Also, on the subject of theatrical happenings with a sexual twist, don’t miss Couples at the historic Iao Theater (Monday, February 14, 6:30pm, Iao Theater, free), a series of five couple-centric vignettes. At last week’s Maui Fringe Festival, previews of two of the acts, The Matterhorn and So Tell Me About This Guy…, proved it’s a date-worthy occasion.
