Remember that one time when it was rumored that Jesus was planning the Second Coming for Maui? It was a few years back. He reportedly wanted try shave ice and check out some reggae, but postponed His visit as soon as He heard that Maui On Stage’s production of Hair featured naked people on stage. In a similar vein, the choreographer of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which opens Friday, reportedly toned down some of the production’s already-PG13 dance routines for fear Maui audiences would find it too racy, a fear substantiated by some businesses’ reluctance to hang the production’s promo poster in their windows. (Good Lord! Are you kidding me, guys? What year is this?) Despite this, it looks to be a pretty killer show with a most excellent cast, including Paul Janes-Brown and Michael Pulliam. The plot revolves around a certain establishment that has been immortalized in the ZZ-Top song “La Grange.” Characters include politicians, football players and others who paid frequent visits to the establishment in its heyday. Runs through August 2. $20/$18 students and seniors/$15 under 18/$15 general admission on Sundays.
