[EVENT] Fudge, the turtle-loving kid from the celebrated Judy Blume series, would love this event! I’m crazy about green sea turtles, too. I love the way they sneak up on me while I’m snorkeling and then nonchalantly swim past, munching on seaweed and going about their turtle business. I think I may have even been a turtle in my past life. I, too, love swimming in Hawaiian waters and eating seaweed, and the color green looks amazing on me. Even my eyes are green. Okay, maybe I’m stretching it, but the Maui Ocean Center is nuts for turtles, too. This week is Turtle Mania week–where you can meet the six juvenile green sea turtles they have on exhibit in the outdoor Turtle Lagoon, learn all about how to nutritious turtle food (uh, isn’t it just seaweed?) and how to care for a turtle in an aquarium. All week there will be special presentations, interactive programs and contests, all in honor of the great green sea turtle– the most common in Hawai`i. It’s like Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, but with less teeth and more shell. It freaks me out less, too. Tickets: $20 (does not include admission). 270-7089 for more information. [JA]
