In 1893, a cowboy named Ko’olau rebelled against the militia that had overthrown the Hawaiian kingdom. Worried that new laws would exile him and his son to the Hansen’s Disease colony on Molokai, Ko’olau fought back in Kauai’s Kalalau Valley. Now his story lives on in The Legend of Ko’olau, a one-act play from local writer, poet and Honolulu Star-Advertiser reporter Gary Kubota. While this is a special encore performance at the MACC (it first played there a year ago), it now stars Moronai Kanekoa, who grew up on Maui and currently works in Los Angeles. 3pm. $28, keiki half-price. Maui Arts & Cultural Center (One Cameron Way, Kahului); 808-242-7469; Mauiarts.org.
