Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) is offering three performing arts camps that will run during fall break at their studios in downtown Wailuku. All three camps will begin Monday, Oct. 6 and end on Friday, Oct. 10.
The fall break Drama Camp is suitable for students ages 5-9. The Drama Camp will be taught by Tina Kailiponi and will run from 9am-2pm. During the camp, students will build self-confidence as they learn how to create characters, improvise and work as a team. The camp culminates in a sharing for family and friends on the last day. No experience is necessary. Tuition is $195 for the week.
This year’s fall break Dance Camp is designed for students ages 6-10. The Dance Camp also runs from 9am-2pm. Dance teacher Rebecca Owen will help the keiki learn ballet, jazz and hip hop. Children also will work on several performing arts skills including memorization, flexibility, coordination and teamwork. Dance students will participate in a performance on the last day of camp. No experience is necessary. Tuition is $195 for the week.
MAPA is also offering the Princess Dance Camp for students ages 3-5; Princes are welcome too. The Princess Dance Camp will be taught by Katie Higuchi, who will create a land of fairy tales in which keiki will become a different princess—or prince–each day. The children will enjoy dancing, stories, activities and crafts. Participants are invited to wear their favorite royal gear including tiaras, tutus, tights and ballet slippers, if they have them. The campers’ day begins at 9am and runs until noon. Tuition is $125.
All the camps are held at MAPA Main Studios, 2027 Main Street in Wailuku (enter from Market Street). Space is limited, so register early. To download a registration form, go to Mauiacademy.org or call 808-244-8760.
