Lyn Ford of Ohio and Jeff Gere of Oahu—both noted storytellers, “gifted at making skin crawl”—return to the Valley Isle with a number of free appearances at local libraries (Thursday-Saturday, see Da Kine Calendar for more). They then join Maui’s own Kathy Collins and Don Lopez—with pianist Les Adams providing a scary score—for a frightfully special evening at the Iao Theater. They’ve got but one chicken-skin goal: “to spook you out,” and aim to do so in such convincing fashion that you must be over 13 to attend. 244-8680 ext. 23, mauionstage.com… As the night progresses, Saturday goes from PG-13 scary to R-rated freaky, with the Cherry Blossom Cabaret (of Honolulu) speakeasy shindig at Casanova. The event will feature Maui lovelies from the Kit Kat Club Cabaret, the music of DJ Joey the Wrench, and—no event boasting beautiful babes would be complete without her—Rachel Deboer’s live body painting. You’ll need no password (that is, disregarding the cover) to get your drinks (legally) at this speakeasy, so I will recommend any one of the devilish delights that are Casanova’s martinis. Work on your “o-face” with “The Oprah”, a crimson-colored, pomegranate indulgence well suited for the night. Oh, and if you haven’t yet guessed, this event is clearly for the 21+ crowd. 572-0220, cherryblossomcabaret.com.
