[MUSIC] I’m a junkie for downbeat electronica, endlessly obsessing over Massive Attack, Thievery Coroporation and usually anything that says “chilled-out” or “late-night” on the label. And certainly Sound Tribe Sector 9 fits the bill. But their sound is definitely a more uplifting, positive electronica than the rest—a sort of melodic, soulful, exploratory, sophisticated and tranquil groove, along the same lines as Zero 7 and Tortoise. But as much as I dig their studio stuff, I hear their live shows are where STS9 truly shine. I can hardly believe they’re coming to Maui with all their instruments, computers and candles but it’s true. Please, please, please, my people—don’t miss out! We need this. And more of it. Tickets: $22. Get ‘em at Requests (Wailuku), Bounty (Kahului) and Beach Road Records (Kihei), Wine Corner (Paia), both LiveWire Cafes (Lahaina, Paia) or online at www.hulatickets.com.
