[DANCE] On the second and fourth Saturday of every month, BellyRoll Dance Company performs an ancient art of seduction—the bellydance. It is a dance with debatable origins—likely to be from the Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa—dating from as far back as 14th century BC. Like many of the world’s greatest arts, belly dancing was once banned for its sensual, “immodest” circular hip motion. Thank goodness we’re past that. But the modern appeal of belly dancing transcends its sexuality, for it’s a dance that celebrates women’s bodies in all their most natural, rounded, exquisite glory. Woohoo! Flat abs, be damned! This week’s special guest is Lori Tawasha, who has been studying the dance for over four years and is now performing her first ever live tribal-fusion solo. I guess it’s sorta like a belly recital! No cover charge. For info about Belly Roll Dance Co., call Beka at 280-5814.
