Above the Skim
Saturday (July 24), 8am at Makena-Pu‘u Olai State Park
You like skim- and body-boarding. You like Makena in its current, unspoiled state. So it follows that you’ll want to make time for the third annual Save Makena/Maui Skimmers Skim-Board/Body-Board Competition, presented by Maui Tomorrow and the Surfrider Foundation. Prizes will be awarded in five categories from youth to advanced, with kane and wahine groups. (Entry forms can be found at savemakena.org). In addition to the competition, there’ll be informational booths and speakers, grinds and, surely, all manner of cool, conscious local peeps. Whether you come to cheer the competitors or get educated about conserving a precious slice of the ‘aina (or, ideally, both) this is a more than worthy way to wile away a Saturday. 357-3143, savemakena.org
