Savor the waves
Saturday (July 11), 8am, Oneloa/Big Beach, 3rd Entrance
Remember that one time when my appendix
ruptured and it was so bad that that the surgeon had to do an
exploratory laporatomy, which left a six-inch scar down the center of
my lower abdomen? And how I used to tell everyone that it was a shark
bite I received while boogie boarding? A surprising number of people
actually believed me, but if you havenÕt heard, let me be the first to
tell you: you will never get bitten by a shark. Unless you have a
seal-like physique and enjoy swimming in chum. That being said, this
weekend has a killer two-birds-one-stone kind of event in store. ItÕs
the Save Makena 2nd Annual Skim Board Contest,
a chance to check out some of the best skimmers on island (or, if
youÕre one of them, compete with others of your ilk). ItÕs also a
chance to learn about Save Makena and their efforts to stop developers
from building in the area. Plus, youÕll be at the beach, so you can go
for a swimÉunless youÕre afraid of sharks.
