In a re-creation of the Parisian Salon Experience of the 1830’s, (except of course, that you will be allowed to discreetly play with your new ipad and everyone will- hopefully – be wearing deodorant) pianist Thomas Purviance will host a recital of Frederic Chopin’s piano music, in celebration of his 200th birthday – Chopin’s, not Purviance’s. “Ballade No. 4 in F minor” and the Polonaise “Heroic,” will be featured as key pieces in the ensemble. Purviance says, “My concert will be a little different because I plan to engage the audience with stories about Chopin, his life in Paris in the 1830s and 40s, and anecdotes about each of the works being played. I think it will be a very enjoyable afternoon for those who attend.” So, please, unglue the headphones blasting “Sexy Bitch” from your eardrums, and give a chance to something a little more soothing (and involving quite a bit more talent.) Tickets to the Celebrating Chopin piano recital by Thomas Purviance are available for $22 adults and half-price for kids aged 12 years and under. Preshow dinner will be catered by Alexander’s Famous Fish from 5:30 pm. Call the MACC Box Office at (808) 242-SHOW (7469) or order online at MauiArts.org.
