CORAL SPAWNING – Coral spawning season has arrived and Maui Ocean Center is inviting you to Night at the Reef: Incredible Corals. Here’s a rare chance to see live coral spawning (not guaranteed). Talk story with with divers and ocean naturalists. State Department of Land and Natural Resources coral reef biologist Dave Gulko will share a presentation leading up to live coral spawning. Complimentary coffee and juice will be served and heavy pupu will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds will go to Project S.E.A.-Link and their continued efforts in the community and marine science awareness. RENT – Maui OnStage presents the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning play RENT. Loosely based on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s RENT follows eight friends and their journey to survive in the New York’s Lower East Side art scene. AKAKU SUMMER VIDEO CAMP – Has your child ever expressed an interest in producing video documentaries? Akaku, Maui’s local public access cable outlet, will be hosting a five-day video production camp Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 19th. The camp will consist of techniques and tools helpful during the production process. Keiki 10-16 will learn the process through hand-on instruction by creating, shooting and editing a project. Once completed, campers will be “youth-certified” which will allow students free use of Akaku cameras and editing software after the camp ends. SAFE INTERNET COMPUTING SESSION – The internet has changed the way we communicate, learn, shop and work (among other activities). Along with its benefits come warnings. This Tuesday, the Kihei Public Library will host a session on “Safe Internet Computing, Safe Behaviors.” This session is part two to a series on safe computing. Keiki 13 and up will learn about schemes, online buying, public computers and more. The workshop will pinpoint tools and tips on how to protect yourself from hackers and those who prey on the vulnerable.
