It’s said that people are a product of their environment. So, it’s no wonder that the beach town boys of Rebelution–and their music–reflect the innovative yet easygoing vibe of their Santa Barbara, CA roots. Case in point: Rebelution’s latest release, a “multi-length triple album” titled Peace of Mind (released Jan. 10, 2012). The discs are like a fantasy threesome of soft reggae/rock, with the deluxe edition consisting of the original Peace of Mind album, plus Peace of Mind: Acoustic and Peace of Mind: Dub, and offer generous musical options for each track–perfect for everything from skateboard raging to mellow backyard chilling to lazy day hacky sacking. (And while those activities are so SoCal, they’re pretty Maui-style, too.) If nothing else, 36 tracks for the price of 12 is certainly worth buying. But I was totally stoked by Peace of Mind’s positive, uplifting lyrics–which sound like the Rebelution boys’ minds were on some really heavy optimistic sunshine shit (and I’d like to know where I can get some)–as they give-off a message similar to that of my favorite motivational quote, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” And much like lemonade, Rebelution’s Peace of Mind is a little sweet and a little tangy, meanwhile totally smooth and refreshing.
