DIJERIDU WORKSHOP – This Thursday, a fun and popular topic comes up for discussion at the newly reopened Wailuku Public Library. Join Wes Hada, Maui’s foremost dijeridu performer, for two hours of educational fun as he instructs people how to play the exotic musical instrument. Hada will demonstrate and explain the use of the Australian aboriginal instrument, invite keiki to play and share stories from his years of experience. ‘REMEMBER ME THURSDAY’– Here’s a chance to join the Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation (HARF) along with local pet adoption agencies and remember the millions of euthanized animals who never enjoyed a proper home. The hope is that people understand the critical need for animal adoption. Whether it’s by pledging a monetary gift, lighting a candle virtually by telling your friends about the cause via social media or providing a home for an animal, every effort counts. HULAVILLE FESTIVILLE – Jazz guitarist, live show personality and bandleader John Pizzarelli takes to the MACC stage this Friday. Son of famed musician Bucky Pizzarelli, John has strummed to the beat of his own guitar. Often compared to the likes of Harry Connick Jr., the young musician has had his hands in more than 40 albums. One of his biggest claims to fame is his Dear Mr. Cole album, which is filled with his renditions of Nat King Cole’s popular hits. ‘LOVE, SEX & THE IRS’ – Maui OnStage presents the popular comedy Love, Sex & The IRS this Friday. Watch jobless musicians John and Leslie when their scheme to evade taxes comes into question. Pretending to be a married couple on paper, Leslie must quickly act and ends up disguising himself as a woman. Watch as the chaos unravels in a classic farce. KIHEI FOURTH FRIDAY – Kihei Fourth Friday this month will commemorate fall with yet another Maui Friday Town Party. FESTIVALS OF ALOHA – Hele Mai to Maui’s annual cultural showcase, the Festivals of Aloha. Celebrate the rich history and culture of Hawaii’s native people through dance, song and ono kau kau. On Friday, you can enjoy family friendly activities at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center from 7pm-9pm. Keiki will get cultural projects, entertainment and “homegrown” activities. Then on Saturday, hele over to the Ritz Carlton Kapalua for the 12th Annual Richard Ho’opi’i Falsetto Contest. Between 6pm-10pm, listen to some of Maui’s most talented song birds compete for a prestigious title ($5 donations). ISLAND SUMMER JAM – Here’s your chance to hear Pato Banton’s epic 1987 anthem “I do not sniff the coke I only smoke the sinsemilla.” It’ll be at the Lahaina Civic Center, but just for one skanking night only. ST. JOHN’S KULA FESTIVAL – Fall is upon us and that means the 31st Annual St. John’s Kula Festival has arrived. Gather your family this Saturday for an Upcountry tradition. ZEPTEMBER IV – This annual tribute to Led Zeppelin and their fans is a hard rock hard-on for Maui. Emcee Trish Smith will do the introductions and Shawn Michael is the musical director. ‘HOT SHOTS’ – October kicks off a new theme at Ambrosia’s Red Carpet Movie Night. This month it’s “military humor” so it’s only natural that the Zucker Brothers’ 1991 comedy Hot Shots will start things off. The parody of Top Gun follows a fighter pilot (a very young Charlie Sheen) and his quest to save a potentially sabotaged mission.
