FIRST NIGHT – Hele mai for the Hui No‘eau’s “First Night,” an evening commemorating Hui Holidays 2012 (which runs through Dec 24). Hui Holidays is one of eight annual exhibitions featuring a range of whimsical artwork and gifts (sold at affordable prices). Artists will be creating jewelry, ceramics, prints, fiber, photography, glass, paintings, handmade ornaments and more. “First Night” serves as Hui Holidays 2012 grand opening featuring the center’s full inventory. Veterans and newbies to the event will also be treated to a new re-envisioned gallery by designer/choreographer André Morissette. NA KUPUNA OHANA SERENADERS – The Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s Hawaiian Music Series will be featuring the Lahaina natives Na Kupuna Ohana Serenaders this Thursday. The group (the oldest of which is 92) will grace the Baldwin Home with their Hawaiian classics and adorned dancers. Bring your blankets and low laying chairs for a relaxing evening under the stars and moon. ‘CONFESSIONS OF AN ECO-TERRORIST’ – Like Whale Wars, the Animal Planet docu-series on the radical anti-whaling organization Sea Shepherd? Then you’re going to love Confessions of An Eco-Terrorist, Peter Jay Brown’s new realistic and humorous take on the movement. The documentary focuses on “positive activism” and Brown’s 30-plus years of behind the scenes and below the decks action of Sea Shepherd. In association with Sea Shepherd Hawaii, this revealing film turns a negative accusation (Sea Shepherd has been derided as a group of terrorists, pirates and worse) into a positive confession of influential activism. ‘GUYS WITH ISSUES’ – Let’s all welcome Jonny Sparkles and James Mane, who will be performing their hit Oahu show “Guys With Issues” this Friday. Sparkles has performed with Andy Bumatai and Paul Ogata, among others. His partner Mane has worked with Bumatai and Ahmed Ahmed. As the founder of Mars Comedy, a single father and former collegiate football player, Mane experiences and outlook makes for pure comedy. Don’t miss the duo unleash their issues like grown men. OZOMATLI – Ozomatli’s early days were spent at community outreach events, political protests and inner city schools. Today they epitomize Los Angeles. KEALI‘I REICHEL – Maui’s award-winning recording artist and kumu hula Keali‘i Reichel is serving up some intimate storytelling, chant and song. Join him for a solo session, an evening of his mana‘o (knowledge) and life through his lenses. Born and raised on Maui, he would later produce traditional and contemporary hits, including “Kawaipunahele” and “Lei Hali‘a.” His passion for Hawaii and culture would expand to education when he founded the Hawaiian immersion program, Punana Leo O Maui. 60TH ANNUAL CHRYSANTHEMUM FESTIVAL – Maui’s Sons and Daughters of Nisei present the 60th Annual Chrysanthemum Festival, which honors American Japanese ancestry and heritage. PAIA SCHOOL CHRISTMAS TREE SALE – Paia School’s PTA is selling Christmas Trees with all proceeds benefiting the school’s keiki. SPAY/NEUTER CAT CLINIC – The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Maui will hold a one-day, low-cost spay/neuter clinic for cats in Central Maui. Household pets, community cats or feral animals are welcome. Licensed veterinarian Dr. Celina Hatt, an expert in mass spay/neuter clinics, will conduct procedures with the help of SPCA Maui’s volunteer vet techs. Cats may be dropped off 8-10am and picked up by 4pm. All cats must be brought in hard-sided carriers with the owner’s name and contact information clearly visible.
