[TELEVISION] When it comes time to gather with friends and family and celebrate the coming of a new calendar year, people will often break open a bottle or 12 of booze. It’s just how we do things in America. The result is usually a combination of good times, high spirits and an angry, bitter malaise the following morning, which is in fact the first day of that new glorious year everyone was toasting just a few hours before. Rather than try to work or mow the lawn, just stay home and nurse your hangover with Comedy Central’s three-movie marathon that constitutes “National Hangover Day.” I, for one, can think of few better ways to get rid of that throbbing headache than by watching the lovely Alicia Silverstone in Clueless, two bumbling women played by Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate do a road trip in The Sweetest Thing and talk show pope Jerry Springer play himself—and do a fine job at it—in Ringmaster. Load up on popcorn and aspirin and you’re all set. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
