“People worry about me living alone, but I’m very happy. I don’t need anyone to take care of me. Just drop food off,” 101-year-old Florence Hasegawa cheerfully announced yesterday via her Twitter account, @GrandmaFlorence. After reading through her recent tweets—all honest, upbeat and interesting—I feel inclined to drop off some food myself. But I also get the feeling she already has a lot of loved ones doing exactly that. Florence is the inspiration for daughter Pat Masumoto’s My Mama Monologues, which will be showing at the MACC this Mother’s Day weekend; Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 2 pm. The production is a theatrical reading of true stories entered by people of all ages from both Maui and afar. Kathy “Tita” Collins and audience volunteers will also read Grandma Florence’s tweets and replies. For information on how to submit a story, visit mymamamonlogues.com. There will be a repeat production next year, so you could always get a good head-start on perfecting your tale. 242-7469
