The love of film and music have come together in an independent film series documenting the lives of prominent Hawaiian musicians. Slack key artist, performer and teacher George Kahumoku Jr. is seeking supporters to help continue his film series with two new movies featuring Martin Pahinui, the youngest son of slack key legend Gabby Pahinui, and Brother Noland, a slack key innovator and composer.
Kahumoku is following the trend in independent film-making by seeking crowd-funding via a Kickstarter campaign. The financial support of a previous Kickstarter campaign was used to fund Kahumoku’s documentary Seeds Of Aloha, Richard Ho’opi’i’s The Timeless Voice and Dennis Kamakahi’s The Legend of the Grey Wolf.
The two new films are projected to be an hour long, and each will tell about the artists through their own eyes.
The deadline for financial support is Mar. 31. If you’re interested in the project or want to support it, visit Mastersofhawaiianmusic.com. Kahumoku and his family thank the community for its continued support.
