[FOOD TALK] Mrs. Hawai`i International Ori Ann Lee lives in Kapolei, having moved the state in 1990 from Canton, China. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin once referred to her as a “local beauty.” She speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English, has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a masters in theater studies, both from the University of Hawai`i. She met her husband, a Hawai`i National Guard public information officer, on a blind date. They own two dogs, six cats and five rabbits. Lee, a vegan, enjoys cooking and one day wants her own cooking show. Some of her recipes have already appeared on KITV’s “Cook Healthy Fast” food segment. And this Wednesday, she’ll speak as part of the Vegetarian Society of Hawai`i’s lecture series. Lee will talk about her thoughts concerning health and beauty, as well as give out some of her favorite Chinese vegan recipes. The lecture is free, as are the refreshments. The Cameron Center is located at 95 Mahalani St. in Wailuku. For more information call 575-7694. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
