“Movie Night” Vegetarian Cooking Class with Chef Devin Kintop
(Tuesday) August 2, 5:30-6:30pm, Down to Earth, Kahului; free
You know what? Simply for the sake of my arteries, sometimes I feel like eating a kiddie pool-sized bucket of butter-drowned popcorn, and sometimes I don’t. When it comes to movie theater fare, I know I’m not alone in this sentiment; because on my friends’ behalf (and mine too, of course) I’ve smuggled in everything from several Subway sandwiches to a couple plate lunches to many mini (and not-so mini) bottles of liquor—and I see all y’all doing it, too!
Point is, movie munchies are a must whether you’re a snack trafficker, or refinancing your home to pay for over-the-counter treats, or are just staying at home with your Paradise Video rental. So why not something that fits the bill—but is healthy to boot?
Down to Earth in Kahului offers free vegetarian cooking classes every Tuesday evening, and each week features a different theme and batch of recipes. This week is “Movie Night” and the lesson plan includes seaweed/sesame popcorn, pomegranate molasses popcorn balls, ultimate party mix, nutty chocolate treats and vegetable casserole.
So, so long, $5(ish) footlong. That extra 50 cents you tacked onto Sandwich Island prices ruined the jingle anyway. [877-2661; downtoearth.org]
