‘LEGEND OF KO‘OLAU’ – Sun, Nov 23. Written by Gary T. Kubota, this historical drama is about Kaluaiko‘olau, Hawaiian cowboy and outlaw. In this one-man play, a courageous story unfolds about a Hawaiian family on Kauai fighting for their rights amidst the chaos and loss of Hawaiian sovereignty in 1893. This encore performance features a new lead actor, Moronai Kanekoa, who grew up on Maui and currently works in Los Angeles as a theater and film actor. Tickets are $28, half-price for children. 3pm. HERITAGE FILMS-OLA NA IWI & KA HO’INA- Sun, Dec 14. “The more active we are in honoring our kupuna, the more mana we get.” -Kaleikoa Ka’eo. “Ola Na ‘Iwi” and “Ka Ho’ina” are two short films that explore the events leading to the establishment and implementation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and its lasting effects on Hawaii and Hawaiians.
