CAFE MAMBO’S 10TH BIRTHDAY – Cafe Mambo is celebrating its 10th year anniversary but you can enter a chance to win a gift. SHUBHENDRA RAO & SASKIA RAO-DEHAAS – Sitar maestro Shubhendra Rao and cello virtuoso Saskia Rao-de Haas will grace the Maui Arts and Cultural stage for a night of great music. The husband-wife duo is made up of an Indian child prodigy whose talent has placed him on stages at Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, National Arts Festival, Sydney Opera House and more. His wife, a pioneer in the Indian cello, is a talent in her own right. MAYOR ARAKAWA’S B-DAY – The Friends of Alan Arakawa want you to celebrate Mayor Alan Arakawa’s birthday this Thursday. The evening will feature live entertainment from HAPA, John Stephan and Na Hoa. MOON DAY FESTIVAL – The Wo Hing Museum invites you to celebrate the Chinese Moon Festival this Thursday, (10am-4pm), Friday (1pm-8pm) and Saturday (10am-4pm). The Chinese Holiday celebrates a full moon indicating abundance and satisfaction. Enjoy a traditional Chinese food like moon cakes, dim sum and a specially crafted “Poly-Asian noodle bowl” by Chef Gregory “Bonz.” Cultural exhibits and demonstrations will feature crafts for all ages. MAUI OKINAWAN FESTIVAL – The Maui Okinawan Kenjin Kai are inviting you to the Maui Okinawan Festival this Saturday. This year’s festival theme is “Celebrating our Unchinanchu Spirit.” They’ll do that through Okinawan music, dance and cultural displays. Food will include pig’s feet soup and andagi. There will also be a display of 10 women and their experiences living in Okinawa through World War II. Stop by the Country Store and snap a photo in traditional Okinawan wear. OBSERVE AND PLAY – The public is invited to take part in a unique experience at MACC’s Schaefer International Gallery. On Saturday, you’ll have the opportunity to explore and interact with Artist-in-residence Wes Bruce’s “Taken by Wonder” exhibit. Known for his forts, Bruce has transformed the 4,000-square-foot space. Aimed at involving the entire community, Bruce’s installation includes artifacts, maps, remnants of world civilizations, field samples, illustrations and more. Visitors will share in their experience through interpretive art and will have the opportunity to create a mini fort. Free. 10am-2pm. LAHAINA CLEAN UP – This Saturday, head over to the Westside for the ninth annual Lahaina Town Clean Up. This year’s Goal is to have over 100 Volunteers stretching from Puamana to Mala Wharf. Past events have gathered thousands of pounds of garbage. Malama Maui Nui (the old Community Work Day Program) will dispose of the waste. This is a green event, which means volunteers should bring a reusable water bottle and gloves. Every volunteer counts so grab a friend for an afternoon of clean fun. 10am. WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S – The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Maui returns this Saturday. Join hundreds of communities nationwide in the fight against a disease devastating many futures.
