Massive attack Saturday (Jul. 18), 3pm, War Memorial Stadium, Kahului Well, whattaya know? New Zealand-based reggae band Katchafire is coming back to Maui to perform in Maui Massive, a show that will also feature appearances by Ooklah the Moc, Natural Vibrations, Maoli and Anuhea. You know what that means. It means that I get to talk about how awesome New Zealand
is. Katchafire played Wellington while I was living there. My
dreadlocked flatmate went to check it out and returned to our
Wai-Te-Ata Road flat glazey-eyed and enthused. I didnÕt go. I was in my
room scrutinizing Heart of Darkness
with the help of a sixer of SpeightÕs Distinction Ale. I was writing an
essay on ConradÕs use of the Manichean allegory as a plot device for my
Postcolonial Literature and Theory class, a course that kicked my ass and blew my mind. I got an A Ð straight As,
in fact Ð but I missed out on a good show. In any case, this will
obviously be one of MauiÕs top summer shows. Find tickets at Solid
Clothing, Hana Highway Surf, Request Music and West Side Vibes. $25 advance/$30 door.
