BRUNDIBAR THE BULLY – Calling all keiki: The Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) will present Brundibar the Bully, a story of perseverance, resilience and courage based on a Czechoslovakian children’s opera. KAPALA’S ‘LEGACY’ CD RELEASE PARTY – Join KAPALA for the release of their most recent CD Legacy. ‘THE DEAD SEASON’ BOOK SIGNING – Don’t miss out on the opportunity to meet the author of The Dead Season, MauiTime Editor Anthony Pignataro. The sequel to his first novel Small Island, The Dead Season continues to chronicle the life of ex-soldier turned Maui bartender Charley Ridgway, who keeps crossing paths with organized crime, crooked cops and mysterious women. The Dead Season delves into island living in a way never seen. HUI NO‘EAU 6TH ANNUAL FOOD & WINE CELEBRATION – Celebrating six years of community, art and spirit, the Hui No’eau presents its 6th Annual Food and Wine celebration. HULA O NA KEIKI COMPETITION – Maui’s keiki-only hula competition returns for its 22nd year and runs Nov. 9-11. Hula O Na Keiki gathers children between five and 17, who compete for an estimated $17,000 in cash and prizes. Participants are judged on Hawaiian language proficiency and their costume authenticity in both auana (modern) and kahiko (ancient) categories. The two-day competition is one of many events contributing to Hawaiian culture and preservation. Guests can enjoy crafters, hula workshops, canoe rides and much more during the Hawaiian Festival of Arts & Crafts prior to the competition. MAUI ALOHA GOLF CLASSIC – Maui No Ka Oi Golf Association makes its debut on the Wailea Old Blue and Waiehu Golf Course with its First Annual Maui Aloha Golf Classic. Participants will have a choice of donating a portion of their registration fee to one of three organizations: Ao’ao O Na LokoI’a O Maui, which helps revitalize the fish ponds, reef restoration and provides education on Hawaiian aquaculture; Uhane Pohaku NA Moku O Hawaii, which gives keikis hands-on experience to connect with and respect the land; and the Mayor Kokua Fund, which gives aid to Maui County’s citizens and organizations. The St. Anthony High School Band and Maui High School Golf Team will be manning par-3 holes, raising funds for their respective causes. VETERAN’S DAY HONORS 442ND – In honor of Veterans Day, the Story of Hawaii Museum in Ma’alaea presents a discussion of Maui historian and author Deborah Pike’s Maui’s Heroes-442nd, which explores the most decorated infantry regiment in the history of the US Army. Composed almost entirely of Americans of Japanese descent, whose families were subject to internment camps, the 442nd still fought in Italy and France during World War II. They were awarded eight Presidential Unit Citations and (eventually) 21 Medals of Honor. $10 (donation). 3pm-5pm. DINE OUT FOR HOSPICE – For the third year now, Dine Out For Hospice Maui will allow residents and visitors a chance to help Hospice Maui merely by eating. This year, a whopping 28 restaurants will participate across the island. Each restaurant will donate a portion of the day’s meal proceeds to Hospice Maui, which is committed to providing Maui residents care and help regardless of ability to pay.
