[ROCK/ROOTS/AMERICANA] In the 1970’s, Marin band New Riders of the Purple Sage was largely considered the greatest psychedelic country-rock band in the universe. It was formed, not surprisingly, by former Big Brother and the Holding Company electric lead guitarist David Nelson and Grateful Dead banjo player/pedal steel guitarist Jerry Garcia, when the Dead was off-tour, and eventually shared management and stages with the Dead on tour. Anyhoo, Nelson has re-configured the re-configuration as of late, as his aptly named band, the David Nelson Band, featuring Barry Sless, Mookie Siegel, Pete Sears and John Molo—members of bands for various members of the Dead, as well as Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna and Rod Stewart—takes Paia by storm with its psychedelic roots-rock jamming and “almost acoustic” good-time style. Tickets: $20 at the door. For more info, visit online at www.NelsonBand.com.
