PICNIC FOR POKI – Every third Thursday, Roselani Place and Na Mele Productions hold an event called “Picnic for Poki” with the goal of spreading aloha and sharing Hawaiian music with Maui. The event is held in remembrance of Allen “Braddah Poki” Pokipala, a talented musician and longtime entertainer. The Brown Ohana will perform traditional Hawaiian slack key and Roselani Place will provide cookies and drinks. Roselani Place suggests that attendees bring something to sit on as well as lunch. INNA VISION – Inna Vision’s “No Stopping” tour hits Maui with three hours of magic this Friday. The tour reflects the bounce back the band experienced over the past year while dealing with member fall out. Debuting it’s third full-length album, Inna Vision hasn’t sounded this good since its 2005 founding. The reggae group includes Kokoman, Kamakoa, Calvi-dread and David Bailey. 21+. $10. 10pm. PADDLE FOR FOOD – Paddle your way towards stomping out hunger by joining with Maui Canoe Club on Friday. The canoe club is the largest such organization in the world and believes in giving back to its community. The Maui Food Bank will be the recipient of all donations collected at this event. Simply bring a nonperishable food item and in return receive a 30-minute free paddling session in the Hawaiian outrigger canoes. That day, participants can choose from four separate paddling sessions: 7:30am, 8am, 8:30am and 9am. MCC is asking participants to arrive 15-20 minutes before your paddling session of choice. RED STAR MUSIC FESTIVAL – BAMP Project and Heineken are presenting the Red Star Music Festival starring Rebelution, Collie Buddz and The Grouch this Friday. Founded in 2004, the California group Rebelution has released three albums, co-found the label 87 music and has hit Billboard’ Top 200. Rebelution has performed with the likes of The Expendables and Lauryn Hill. Hailing from Bermuda, reggae artist Collie Buddz is best known for his single “Come Around” and has been featured on an album with Shaggy. A founding member of Living Legends, The Grouch–who now lives on Maui–is a prominent member in the independent hip hop scene. ANUHEA AT STELLA BLUES SUPPER CLUB – Anuhea is one of the most popular female artists in Hawaii. A couple of Anuhea’s more popular songs include “Come Over Love” and “Simple Love Song.” In 2010, she received two Na Hoku Hanohano awards (Most Promising Artist, Best Contemporary Album of the Year). This performance is her first scheduled show back in Hawaii after a mainland tour earlier in the month. MAKAWAO THIRD FRIDAY – It’s September, which means it’s time to “fall” in love with Makawao this Friday. It’ll be an evening dedicated to the historic town, family-friendly festivities and community pride. Whether you take in a full concert by the FreeRadicals Projekt, engage in a little dancing in the streets, take advantage of specials at the shops around town or taste ono food from a variety of vendors, locals and tourists alike will have a blast. Pet lovers are encouraged to bring a photo of their pets and get a custom art piece created by Maui Hands artist Melissa Ebeling. HAWAIIAN ISLANDS LAND TRUST WAIHE’E WEEKEND – Hawaiian Islands Land Trust (HILT) is a nonprofit organization in charge of protecting many different areas across the state. On Friday, HILT teams up with Kupu Maui for a dinner under the stars at the 277-acre Waihe’e Coastal Dunes & Wetlands Refuge. Then on Saturday, Sept. 22, HILT will hold their annual picnic, which will also be a retirement party for executive director Dale B. Bonar. BOYS & GIRLS CLUB GOLF BENEFIT – Putt with purpose at the 7th annual Boys & Girls Club of Maui Benefit Golf Tournament this Saturday. KOKUA FOR KUPUNA – Kokua for Kupuna is an evening benefiting Hale Makua Health Services,which provides care for Maui’s elderly community. BOBBY INGANO AT GEORGE KAHUMOKU’S SLACK KEY SHOW – Born on Lanai and raised in Honolulu, Bobby Ingano spent much of his youth fighting polio. Silent hospital beds would lead Ingano to learn the art of the ‘ukulele. He spent his teen years as a member of a jazz band. Later, he met his mentor David “Feet” Rogers from Sons of Hawaii. As Rogers’ protege, Bobby came to believe that music should root from a desire to make those around him happy. Bobby’s renowned melodic and understated music is what makes him a legend.
