DOLPHIN TALK – Dive into a conversation with Dr. Sarah Courbis, a research associate at Portland State University, concerning humanity’s impact on Hawaii’s dolphin population. Featured at Pacific Whale Foundation’s Making Waves Lecture series, Courbis will lead the discussion via an exclusive webinar titled “Hawaii’s Dolphins: Human Impacts and Conservation Action.” The public forum will explore human impacts, conservation efforts and marine research surrounding Hawaii’s unique wild spinner, bottlenose and spotted dolphins. KIHEI TOWN PARTY – Stroll around the Southside as the Maui Friday Town Party tour stops in Kihei this week. Hele down for Kihei’s “Hot August Nights” and get the chance to help cool off Mayor Alan Arakawa in the dunk tank! From 6-7pm, the public will have a chance to help Backpack Buddies by attempting to send Arakawa for a dip. The evening will feature emcee Pete Sebastian, Naau, Maui Underground and Angie Carr. There’s also the Keiki Zone filled with bubbles, balloons, games, karaoke and more. CELEBRATE HISTORIC LAHAINA – The Lahaina Restoration Foundation, along with Maui County and Lahaina’s community, want you to “Celebrate Historic Lahaina.” It marks the completion of an initiative called IMAGINE, as well as the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) exhibit in the Old Lahaina Courthouse and plans for the Lahaina Harbor. On Friday, talk story with Katherine Kama‘ema‘e Smith at the Lahaina Public Library about The Flemming Journals: West Maui Land Records and Family History (3pm-4pm). Then on Saturday, festivities will take place between the Old Lahaina Courthouse, Banyan Tree Park, Lahaina Harbor and Lahaina Library Park. There’s kapa making, the Lahaina Yacht Club Junior Sailing program and the third annual Grom Magazine Lahaina Surf Bash. Maui Nei Native Expeditions will also offer walking tours, a chance to plant kalo at the Lahaina Library and cultural films at the Wharf Cinema. 10am-4pm. BRICK BUILDING WITH LEGO ARTIST PATRICK MARKEY – Here’s a chance for your kids to explore their creativity with Lego artist Patrick Markey. Keiki six to 10 are invited to get crafty with Lego bricks with Markey, who’s been creating art through the medium of Lego for a decade. The session helps kids to learn about architecture, problem-solving and enhance their motor skills. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend this session with their child. POP IN DAY – The Schaefer Gallery at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center wants you to attend “Pop in day” and meet artist Wes Bruce. CHEF LYNDON HONDA AT MAUI BREWCO – Originally a chef consultant to Maui Brewing Co., Chef Lyndon Honda is returning to the brewery for a specialty five-course dinner and beer pairing. These days Honda is creating pop-up food events around Maui. The menu for this event will start with a corn salad, followed by a charcutiere, grilled tako agrodolce, Li Hing Mui Vienna lager braised buffalo brisket and will end with a twist on the classic milk and cookie dessert.
