The second annual Henry Kaleialoha Allen Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival is taking music appreciation to a whole new level. The Free workshops, lectures, and performances, hosted at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel will surely draw beginning to seasoned guitar players from all around the island. It is tempting to spend Friday, April 23rd at a Ka’anapali beach, and then head up to the hotel at 2 PM for Henry Kaleialoha’s free”Teaching the Hawaiian Steel Guitar” Hands-on Hawaiian Steel Guitar making class with Dr. Neil Scott; building kits are provided. The festival will also be peppered with chants by Kahu Danny Akaka, Jr. and Kahu Aloha Kekoolanit, and a welcome address by Lieutenant Governor James “Duke Aiona.” On Saturday, musical performances will continue at the Kanahele Room, Tiki Courtyard, and Tiki Terrace Restaurant. That night, there will even be dancing under the stars with music by Bill Noble and Tropical Swing. The only ticketed event is the reception on Thursday, April 22nd, which costs $150 per person, and includes food, champagne, a gift bag, and photos. For more information or reservations for the reception, contact Sherron Allen at 669-6189 or visit http://www.aecg.org By: Sierra Brown
