“People worry about me living alone, but I’m very happy. I don’t need anyone to take care of me. Just drop food off,”101-year old Florence Hasegawa cheerfully tweeted yesterday from her twitter account: @GrandmaFlorence. After reading through her recent tweets, all honest, upbeat, and interesting, I myself feel inclined to drop some food off. But I also get the feeling that she has a lot of loved-ones already doing just that. Grandma Florence is the inspiration for Pat Hasegawa’s “My Mama Monologues,” which will be showing in the McCoy Studio Theater at the MACC this Mother’s Day Weekend, at Saturday at 7pm, and Sunday at 2 pm. The production is a play reading of true stories entered by people of all ages from both Maui and afar. Kathy “Tita” Collins and audience volunteers will read GrandmaFlorence’s tweets and replies. For information on how to submit a story, visit www.mymamamonlogues.com. There will be a repeat production next year, so you could always get a good head-start on perfecting your tale for next May. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and children.
