In the 1993 movie Demolition Man, it’s the year 2032 and Sly Stallone’s dethawing after 36 years in a cryogenic deep freeze. Helping him catch up on world events is Sandra Bullock, who tells Stallone of the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. OK. Arnold isn’t Commander-in-Chief, but the Governator was at Cahleefornya’s helm—and is inspiring other actors to bid for elected office, too. Late last December, on Good Day LA, comedian George Lopez announced his intent to run for mayor of Los Angeles (seriously). The day after the clip aired, Latina ran an online poll asking “Would you vote for George Lopez to be mayor of your city or town?” Eighty-five percent answered “Definitely! He’s smarter than most politicians out there,” while 15 percent answered, “No way, celebs should stay out of politics.” For now (Lopez says he plans to run in eight years), he’ll stick to doing what he does best: comedy. Taking his “I Can Never Do Nuthin’” show on the road, (maybe future Mayor) Lopez will be at the MACC this Friday. He gets our vote. 242-7469; mauiarts.org
