[FILM] Why see one film when you can see 18? Paris, Je t’Aime is a collection of short films by 20 respected directors about living and loving in the City of Lights. Each individually titled vignette is set in a different part of the city, giving a panoramic perspective of the varied moods of Paris love, the gossamer thread of a theme that connects the films. Freaky marital bedroom troubles, sensual vampire attacks, quirky American tourists speaking in hideous French accents, a pair of mimes silently falling for each other–these films express in their own diverse ways (in eight minutes or less) what it means to love, Paris-style. The Coen brothers, Gus Van Sant, Wes Craven and Alexander Payne are just a few of the big-name directors who contributed to the film soup, while actors like Natalie Portman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Elijah Wood and Nick Nolte play prominent roles. Or should I say croissants? www.mauifilmfestival.com [JESSICA ARMSTRONG]
